ACEY DEUCEYS NEWS

APRIL 2010

Spring is here! We welcome our snowbirds back and we look forward to wonderful spring and Summer Series dancing. The Acey Deuceys have been busy. We recently had Ed Foote call for the group and he called for the C2 class as well. Speaking of the C2 class, they are progressing very nicely and we will continue to dance throughout the summer, even with the guest callers. The Summer Series Schedule is now available, copies are out on the table each week and the schedule is posted on our Summer Dance Schedule Page.

The A2 class has now completed the lessons. Congratulations to Stephen and Laurie Romanski, Elaine Verderese and Ed Davis on successfully completing the lessons. They have received their badges.

On a sad note, we have lost some very good dancers and dear friends to our hearts, Brad Reed and Sue Baken recently passed away. Our hearts and thoughts also go out to Elaine Verderese as she recently lost her father.

We will dance up to Memorial Day (but NO dancing Memorial Day) and then begin the Summer Series. Todd Fellegy will be filling in for me on Monday May 3rd and I will be gone on May 17th as well (Caller to be determined) our club has been busy dancing at weekends and festivals. Many dancers supported the Maple Sugar Festival, WASCA as well as the April Adventure, just held recently with Ken and Todd. This was a success, over 5 squares of C1 dancers.

Acey Deucey’s member and square dance caller, Elaine Verderese, participated in a fund raising event On April 14, 2010 in Hagaman, NY. Proceeds from the “Heading Out West” event sponsored by Tecler Arts in Education Magnet School were donated to The Double H Ranch whose mission is to provide specialized programs and year-round support for children and their families with life threatening illnesses. Elaine called for three squares of dancers, the children of Tecler School and their teachers and parents. We had a lot of fun mixing it up and introducing modern western square dancing to a new generation of dancers. Thank you, Elaine. Participating square dance clubs included Acey Deuceys, Single Squares, Latham Circle Squares, Merry Mohicans and Saratoga Dancers.

The winter and early spring has been a busy time for me calling wise. I made two trips to Chicago, traveling also took me to Philadelphia, Maryland, Virginia , Florida for the Knothead Convention as well to Niagara Falls for the Callerlab Convention. The C2 class is doing very well, it’s a big list and I am happy for everyone. Special thanks to Ed and Mary Alice Morgan, Sharlene and Rose and Maury for helping out.

The April Adventure went extremely well, 13 Acey Deuceys participated in the day which was held in Katonah. Thank you for your support! I called my first C3A tip this past Thursday evening for the Tech Squares in Boston. It went very well and I was happy to do it. I look to expand my knowledge of 3A and calling experience as time goes on.

Upcoming travels will take me to South Carolina, Atlanta, Portland Oregon, PACE North in California (A2-C2) and the National Convention in Louisville, KY. Also coming up will be my annual Memorial Day A2 Weekend with Roy Leber at Cherry Ridge.

Some exciting news, There will be a first ever “Cherry Ridge Festival” next September with Don Moger, Ken Ritucci and Ben Rubright calling. We will have three halls (A2-C2) with C3A star tips at night.

The New Years Party Dance for 2010 has been planned with Betsy and Roy Gotta. Roy will cue which will be a nice feature this year. More details to follow mark your calendars now!
